IMPORTANT:

Sheep MUST be off feed and water over night (6 - 8 hours) prior to scanning. This ensures that the rumen of the ewe is empty and not encroaching into the uterus area, allowing for accurate detection of the pregnancy.

Please DO NOT yard sheep in the same area where scanning will take place.

Please also consider the following requirements that will assist us on the day:

STOCK PRESENTATION: Full crutch and wigging is strongly recommended. This will reduce pen stain, increase throughput, and most importantly, improve scanning accuracy.

STAFF: We supply one extra staff to assist the scanner. However, two staff provided by the grazier is preferred to assist with moving and handling stock.

STOCK ID: We provide a three-way air-operated drafting system, but recommend that ewes are marked with coloured stock mark(s) according to group allocation (i.e. single, twin, triplet, dry, early/late) to avoid ewe mobs being mixed in the yards.

WEATHER CONDITIONS: Scanning is seldom postponed due to adverse weather conditions.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: We prefer to scan ewes under cover to avoid adverse weather conditions.

CLEANING FACILITIES: A nearby running water supply, (i.e. garden tap), is essential as we thoroughly clean our equipment between properties to ensure no diseases are transported.

WATER: We provide an initial supply of warm water for the operation of the ultrasound probe. However access to further supplies would be greatly appreciated (20 L per 500 ewes).
