Best practices

  • Accredited muelsers
  • Modern lamb-marking cradle set-up
  • Disinfected equipment
  • Perform multiple tasks to minimise handling

Useful tips

  • Carry out marking and mulesing in clean yards close to the paddock being grazed.
  • Paddock location set ups must be on stable grass surfaces if possible.
  • Ensure the operation is completed as early in the day as possible so ewes and lambs can successfully mother up.

Range of Lamb Marking Husbandry Practices

  • Gas hot-knife de-tailing
  • Gudair (Johnes disease prevention) vaccine
  • 6 in 1 vaccine
  • Eryvac (arthritis prevention) vaccine
  • Scabby mouth prevention vaccine
  • Ear tag application
  • Ring or knife castration
  • Station ear mark
  • Muelsing
  • Tail strip
  • 'Trisolfen' (antiseptic / anaesthetic) application
  • Fly strike prevention / treatment application

Note:

We provide all application equipment, however we do not supply tags, rings or chemical.

We use a 'Tapari' gas knife de-tailer which 'rolls', therefore sealing the blood flow and removing skin, keeping the tail clean and minimising dag collection.
